If your initiative has been successful, celebrate this. Celebrating your achievements is a continuation of your evidence-based approach. Evidence of your success can:
- demonstrate the benefits of inclusion initiatives;
- foster ongoing enthusiasm in your team;
- support business cases for program expansion and new initiatives, or support inclusion-related grant applications and business development;
- inspire others to develop initiatives; and
- support further community engagement.
Communicate your successThere are lots of ways to communicate your achievements. If you have a communications or marketing team, work with them to find the best approach for your venue and organisation. Ideas include:

Use significant days to celebrate diversity and to highlight your work
Significant diversity days are a great opportunity to focus on inclusion, to launch new initiatives, and to celebrate what you have achieved. There are lots of days you can recognise. Examples include:
- International Women’s Day;
- Cultural Diversity Week;
- IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia and Transphobia);
- Reconciliation Week;
- NAIDOC Week; and
- International Day of People with Disability.
Celebrating and launching initiatives on significant days might even help to raise the profile of your work. For example, if there is already community and media focus on a significant day, this might help to pique interest and advance understanding of the importance of your work.
Redesign or repeat, expand and sustain
Case Study
Kilsyth Centenary Pool is owned by Yarra Ranges Council and managed by Belgravia Leisure, with active support from Belgravia Foundation and many community groups.
Outstanding leadership from facility management, accentuated by a passionate Inclusion Coordinator and regional Community Development Coordinator, set the venue on the path to excellence. Community engagement underpinned its actions, centred on building staff confidence and capacity to welcome, support and include local residents in everything the facility had to offer – aquatic experiences, social engagement, community activities and employment. The team has also had a focus on mental health awareness, and acquiring mental health first aid skills.
The Kilsyth team has celebrated its successes and innovative approaches to access and inclusion. This has included showcasing its achievements, highlighting and celebrating regional staff in Belgravia Leisure internet articles, and having its fundraising activities and positive feedback highlighted by Belgravia Foundation. The venue also created a video to share a story of workforce diversification, and took part in an Anchor Inc video celebrating the Brighter Futures program.
Kilsyth and other Belgravia Leisure venues in the Yarra Ranges region have also celebrated and promoted their inclusion work through award nominations, including for ARV awards. Stories regarding an individual finalist, and state and national awards were then shared by Belgravia Leisure.
